Lila Rae and Masar Jasim. Luma Jasim’s artist exhibition reception for the opening of her “Long Term Vision” multi-media exhibit at the Student Union Building Fine Arts Gallery, Boise State University, Boise, Idaho on August 26, 2021.

Alumna Luma Jasim returns to Boise State to install LONG TERM VISION, a reconstruction of memories, traumas, and thoughts on displacement, belonging, and strangeness. In a collage of large-scale canvases of fragmented visions represented by imaginative figures, and Mesopotamian symbols. This project examines the complicated and layered experience of refugees, who due to war, conflict, and violence are forced or choose to flee a home country. This can leave the individual in a space between two contradictory realities: the past and history of one's given home and the unknown present of fashioning a home in a foreign place. As an Iraqi-American artist, Jasim asks for us: where can home be when we leave for abroad? What are the consequences of leaving and staying?
